Douglas Cox, a licensed professional hunter and registered outfitter, has been manager at Kingston for the last 14 years. He and his wife, Lara, will be your hosts for the duration of your stay.
Local Details - The city of Kimberley is the capital of the Northern Cape Province and is our closest city. There are daily flights from Johannesburg International and Capetown to Kimberley. We will collect you at the airport and bring you to the ranch.
Our area is malaria free, so medication for it is not necessary. Otherwise, normal health precautions prevail. South African electrical outlets are 220 Volt AC. Be sure to bring the necessary connector plug adaptors as well as a voltage converter if needed.
Location - We are situated in the centre of South Africa, a paradise for hunting and observing plains game, as well as being an ideal getaway for the adventurous outdoorsman.
Kolobe Adventures is based on the ranch, Kingston, which is 7000ha (17,000+ acres) of privately owned land and will ensure a totally secluded vacation for you and your family or friends. We are located about 40km west of Kimberley, the capital of the Northern Cape Province.
Terrain - The farm lies geographically where the Karoo ends and the Kalahari begins, which gives us a very diverse terrain. There are sandveld savannahs with camelthorn trees to fairly bushy areas and occasional rocky hills and outcrops.
Climate - Our rainfall is mainly in the hot summer months and is more often than not violent thundershowers, accompanied by lightning, which is often the cause of severe grass fires. Summer (November – February) is extremely hot with temperatures rising to between 30ºC-40ºC, but the evenings are very pleasant. Our winter (April – August) has mild days with cold evenings. Average day temperatures ranges from 17ºC to 23ºC, but you can expect occasional cold spells where the morning temperature can drop to 0ºC and only rise to about 15ºC in the afternoons. Early mornings are often accompanied by frost.
What to Bring - We recommend that you bring light comfortable cotton clothes in neutral colours, and as laundry is done daily it is best to travel light. Bring footwear that is comfortable and well worn. We experience a wide variety of temperatures in one day, it is best to layer your clothes and have light jackets and rainwear. Wool stockings and leather gloves are also a good idea. We walk through grasses and gaiters (protective leggings) will help to prevent grass seed from scratching and irritating your legs. Also it is essential to bring a hat, sun screen (even in winter our sun is harsh), sunglasses and insect repellent.
Please be sure to bring medicine you may need, and advise us in advance of any physical or medical condition and/or allergies that may require attention as well as any special dietary requirements.
Other items to bring would be binoculars, photographic equipment, data cables, flashlight, shaving and/or cosmetic kit and thermal underwear.
